Being a group that is yet to be linked to any other languages, the Kradai family forms a base for the Tai to which the Thai language belongs. Essentially, people from this group are thought to have their cradle land in the South of China. A lot of words in the language are loaned from the Khmer, Sanskrit and Pali communities. Its structure is mainly analytic with a noticeable tonal streak. Compared to Lao, Thai is more intelligible but still contains an elaborate orthography.
