Computer technology has attracted its fair share of criminal activities from those looking to exploit and capitalise on people's reliance on the computer to run their daily lives.

By: Racheal

Computer technology has attracted its fair share of criminal activities from those looking to exploit and capitalise on people’s reliance on the computer to run their daily lives. After all, author Jolly John singled Singapore out for being ‘the most network-ready country’, signifying both our dependence on new-age technology and the capabilities of the talent we have. However, there are dire consequences to be dealt with should the intentions of those with the ability to manipulate the systems deviate to malice.

In their efforts to safeguard against computer crime, the Singapore Government has set up various measures through a multi-pronged approach. The first step is to keep up governing laws with the fast changing developments of technology and the opportunities for dismeanour it presents by passing new legislations. Singapore passed the Computer Misuse Act in 1993, which has since been amended four times.

On the other hand, the existing Penal Code governs cyber crime, which is traditional crime like fraud, theft or extortion abetted through the computer. As opposed to carrying out crime against a computer, perpetrators carry out their illegal acts through the computer.

Through the Computer Misuse Act, the law punishes and deters computer criminals by meting out harsh penalties including imprisonment and fines. Crimes targeting the bedrock of our nation’s critical industries like banking and finance, communications or transportation and public services warrants the harshest punishment – a fine up to $100,000 and/or imprisonment up to 20 years. It is also noteworthy that a Court can order compensation to be paid by the offender for any damage that is caused, and such compensation which is ordered does not prevent or restrict a civil claim for damages which exceeds the compensation amount.

The next step it has taken is to set up agencies that ensure the enforcement of these laws. These specialised agencies include the Singapore Computer Emergency Response Team, Computer Crimes Branch of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Computer Forensics Branch of the Singapore Police.

Operated by professionally-trained tech experts, they can exercise their power with extra-territorial jurisdiction. They are trained in all aspects of computer investigation, one of which is the emerging field of computer forensics. This intricate process of investigation enables the retrieval of consequential data from computers, computer networks, data storage media and related equipment that may contain evidence which can be presented in court. They first analyse the data and meticulously document and preserve the evidence to be presented before court. This operation requires highly trained professionals as it involves delicate procedures where a single wrong move can destroy or modify the evidence.

If one suspects a breach but don’t want to bring it directly to the authorities, there is the option of approaching private forensic investigators like Adroit Data Recovery Centre (ADRC). Due to the increase in violations of the Computer Misuse Act, ADRC has set up a forensic investigation department to deal with the influx of such investigative requests.

With more than 10 years of experience in the data recovery market, ADRC is well equipped with certified computer forensic experts who are capable of securing and documenting digital evidence with full audit trail suitable for court submission and performing data recovery under all adverse situations. They also have their own class 100Â clean laboratory. Without having to move evidence around, this minimizes the risk of evidence being contaminated.

Computer users should also adopt preventive measures to safeguard their computers against computer crime, which is a very real threat that has the potential to be even more damaging given our reliance on computers these days.

Adroit Data Recovery Centre (ADRC) Pte Ltd is South East Asia’s leading data recovery centre equipped with the first Class 100 clean laboratory in Singapore. It has an un-paralleled capability and the setup to acquire and collect the digital evidence from all kinds of working or damaged media while observing the strictest process of computer forensic investigation.

The team of qualified forensic experts is able to provide court-ready reporting of digital evidence for civil and criminal litigation through the installation of rigorous forensic methodologies in order to identify, acquire, preserve, analyze and document digital data (electronically stored information) for use as evidence in court or other legal or administrative proceedings.

This was Shah Rukh Khan’s hattrick as a quizmaster, courtesy management guru Arindam Chaudhuri

By: Kartik
After hosting a successful season II of KBC and Kya Aap Paanchvi Paas Se Tez Hain?, SRK was in Delhi to host the 4Ps business and marketing quiz DARE ’09 at the IIPM campus.

And he played an honest quizmaster, as he admitted that the speech he delivered before starting the quiz was the one he’d used at a Young President’s Organisation event some time ago. “I’m sorry, but I’m recycling it,” he said, before telling the management students that they should become “CEOs, COOs, CFOs, UFOs and as many FOs as they could in their lives. My friends tell me my kids will become great corporate people because they finish lunch in two-and-a-half hours. More power to power lunches!”

And, do we read this as a change of heart or simply a Freudian slip? While talking about his films and the other two Khans — Aamir and Salman — in the same breath, the superstar referred to the latter as a friend. It may be recalled that the two Khans have not been on speaking terms ever since they sparred over allegedly a remark made by SRK at Salman’s girlfriend Katrina Kaif’s birthday party.

King Khan said, while spouting gyan to the students,’’’I’m the most successful failure. My mother didn’t live long enough to see me become a superstar. Ab pata nahin Delhi mein yeh word use karte hain ya nahin, but there were times jab meri kudki ho gayi thi. Kudki is when you lose everything and you’re on the road. I equated poverty to failure at one point in my life. I didn’t want to be poor. So I did Deewana, a film that Armaan Kohli had refused. I did Baazigar that my friend Salman didn’t want to do. I acted in Darr because Aamir turned it down and I worked in Dil Aashna Hai because Saif refused it. These films paid well and I was working to avoid unemployment. When Dilip saab (Dilip Kumar) and I were watching my Devdas, I asked him, ‘Why did you do Devdas?’ And he said, ‘Pata nahin. Tab ek lakh rupaiya mila tha’. Then success happened… My speech ends. Normally, people clap now.”

With SRK, the quiz was a lesson in speaking into the microphone too. “Go towards the mike like you’d eat a banana and then speak. But remember not to squeeze it. And don’t get any cheap thoughts when I say banana!” he told the participants.

And while SRK’s quizzing had the participants and the audience in stitches, Arindam said, “SRK’s not just the most intelligent star, but one of most intellectual and witty people I know. I guess that comes from his extensive reading and Eco Hons background. And he’s the biggest brand in India. Our association with him sets a forever unbeatable benchmark in B-school events!” SRK added, “I like coming to Delhi – it’s my city, my mom-in-law is here and Arindam, the one man who has better hair than mine, is here too!”

Hi

The inability of people to find a house for themselves in the locality or society of their choice is a universal affliction and is faced by people cutting across communities, castes, and social and economic factors, says Namrata Kohli

Bollywood actor Emraan Hashmi recently alleged he was refused a No Objection Certificate (NOC) by a housing society in the posh Bandra area to buy a flat, only because of his religion! The episode has spurred a debate whether religion has any connection to real estate and if housing is a problem for people of one religion, region, belief or sect trying for accommodation in places dominated by people of other religions, regions, sects, and communities.

We checked with a cross-section of society to gauge whether this is a trend prevalent in the National Capital Region as well. According to a Chittaranjan Park-based real estate consultant Harmeet Singh Chawla of Ace Consultants Pvt Ltd, “In my experience, people are denied an accommodation for various reasons – they may be on account of eating habits, language, over marital status (married vs bachelor/ spinster), or even due to their profession. Therefore, to view this purely and only from the point of religion is not correct.” He adds that the Emraan Hashmi issue has captured limelight only because of the celebrity quotient in the story.

Another broker, Sanjay Tyagi of Continental Estates, says in upmarket areas where he transacts like Vasant Vihar, there is absolutely no such concern. In fact, coincidentally, most of the recent transactions he has done are those of Hindu landlords leasing out premises to embassy people who are Muslims with landlords only concerned about timely payment of rent and not religion. However, Tyagi adds, the situation changes in middle class and lower middle class areas, but as one goes up the pyramid towards higher classes, where the community is more literate and educated, biases tend to decrease.

“Very few Hindus will actually lease out a property to a Muslim or Kashmiris in middle class areas.”

It is of course a fact that there are areas in every city where people from one community, region, and linguistic stock prefer to aggregate. “Birds of a feather flock together,” says sociologist Purnima Malhotra. She adds that humans like to have their “comfort” factor and at times people like to live with “their” own ilk – defined on language, community, eating habits. Echoing this Sumit Mishra, a landlord, says, “ It would be a white lie if I said that between a person of my community and someone else, I will not prefer the former.” So, these doings are not so much because of a strong prejudice, but often, more for that comfort factor.

As for Muslims, in every city they aggregate in certain places and avoid certain others. For instance, in Delhi, Muslims largely prefer residing in Old Delhi, Okhla, Tehmur Nagar, Zakir Nagar, Sadar Bazaar, etc. “There is no specific boundary or place demarcated for the Muslim/Christian areas as such and by statute it is not even permissible,” says Kolkata-based real estate consultant Sandip Sen who does hi-end transaction in residential and commercial segment. “However, there are specific places that have had traditional settlements of Muslims and Christian and they prefer staying with their friends and relatives.” He cites the example of Kolkata where Muslims prefer places like Park Circus, Topsia, Rajabazar, Khidirpore. As for Christians, they are concentrated in the places in and around Park Circus, Rippon Street, Theatre Road, and Moulali.

People from these communities have divergent views. A Muslim banker (name withheld) at a leading private bank staying in Delhi says he or his relatives have never faced any problem. “If at all I have not been able to secure a house, it has been because of economic reasons where my pocket has not allowed it, but not because of religion. If I am earning a lakh per month, I can stay at New Friends Colony, just like anyone else.”

Another view was that of Harpreet Kaur who says after the 1984 Sikh riots, Hindus did not give preference to a Sikh tenant. “With time, the matter cooled off and there was hardly any reservation against a Sikh tenant. In times of peace, all is well but the minute there is a crisis situation, these biases resurface and people raise their guard again.” Safroon, working at the front office of a British company at Gurgaon says she never faced any such problem. “In fact, I have never encountered religious bias in housing and I was taken aback by the Hashmi affair.”

Sanjay Kar, a journalist, says there are prejudices in our society and it’s not just minorities, but everybody who face varying hues of prejudice away from their home or community – ranging from a North Indian in Maharashtra to a South Indian in UP/Haryana/Punjab, to the Northeastern girls and boys in Delhi. But so do journalists, lawyers, and single women who are often singled out and denied a tenement by landlords in Delhi. He adds that certain groups also try to keep Bengalis, Christians and other non-vegetarians out. But this problem is not specific to India and we live in a world that is unequal – and there is no level playing field.

The very mention of diamond evokes fantasies of fabulous riches and dreams of love and power. Up to the Middle Ages they were so rare and expensive that only royalty could afford diamonds. But in modern times even ordinary people are able to possess a few, thanks to the discovery of numerous diamond deposits elsewhere on the planet plus high, albeit controlled, production.

Diamonds were discovered in India by the 4th century BCE. In addition to the diamond legends, India yielded many legendary diamonds, including the Koh-i-Noor, the Orlov, the Hope, and the Sancy. Today the Majhgawan pipe, a primary source near Panna, is the India’s only producing diamond source.

At one time, India appears to have been the only source of this valuable gem until about the early eighteenth century when diamonds were discovered in Borneo and later elsewhere, such as in South Africa and Russia. Although ancient Sanskrit texts mention several areas where diamonds were found, verifiable historical records are available for only a few deposits. Mining activities in southern India – which in its time was the leading producer of this gem and had yielded some of the most famous stones in history – gradually declined and had become defunct by the time diamonds were discovered elsewhere in the world.

The 1867 discovery of diamonds in the Cape Colony, now a province in South Africa, changed forever the supply and marketing of diamonds. As annual world diamond production increased exponentially, a once extremely rare material became more accessible to Western society with its growing wealth, science learned that diamonds came from volcanoes, and everyone learned of Cecil John Rhodes, Barney Barnato, Kimberley, and De Beers. Today South Africa maintains its position as a major diamond producer. If not for the controlled production and distribution of the South African diamond mines, diamonds could have been easily devalued and lost much the mystique they hold for us today.

India vs Australia series is down to wire. with Australia coming back in the fourth one day International, the series is expected to be a close encounter. Not only that No.1 rankings in One day cricket is also at grasp. So who will be winning the last three one days. what can India do to stabilize the middle order.

By: ksrpaniraj

India went down again after giving a tough fight in the fourth one day International between India and Australia. After a good batting performance, Australia had put up its best show in fielding making two crucial runouts of yuvraj and jadeja, making it easy in the end for a good victory against the opponents in their home town.

Earlier in the day, India had bowled consistenly restricting Australia to 250, but batsman has put them down. Especially there was no partnership that was continuing in the middle order which was the main disadvantage for the Indians. A late batting display by Harbhajan and praveen kumar could not help India to move towards the victory doors. India started well by a good start from Sehwag and Sachin. But the things changed when India lost sachin for a controversial decision by the empire. It happens always that in crucial times, these decisions come and it creates a feeling in the people that there is a need for the technology enhancement while taking these decisions

The main thing that was lacking in Indian middle order is strong partnerships and a backbone. Previously India used to have Dravid, Ganguly and Laxman who used to provide consistency in the middle order. Even though Dhoni performing very well, Raina, Kohli and Jadega are not performing consistently. Once they perform, India would be cruising to clinch the series.

Hope the coming three one day Internationals would be very interesting and India would perform its best to keep the hearts of Indian fans alive. And hope Dhone would show his captaincy skills and good luck follows him and India clinch the series with ease.

It’s bad enough that most Asien men are on the short and small size, but we also have a big problem with letting a girl know that we like her – let alone actually showing that we want her. Is there anything we can do to change that? Read on to find out.

It’s bad enough that most Asien men are on the short and small size, but we also have a big problem with letting a girl know that we like her – let alone actually showing that we want her. It’s just something Asian. We go into a brain freeze around beautiful women – Asian, Black, White, Hispanic, it doesn’t matter. But what is the real truth about Asians and interracial dating? Is there anything we can do to change that? Read on to find out.

A study made by a researcher name Evan Katz showed some very scary stuff. One of his students, did a test on an online dating site to see how many matches he would get when he listed his height at 5’3 and then later as 5’10.

The results are straight out startling:

Match Type | 5′3″ | 5′10″

Mutual matches | 0 | 80

Reverse matches | 12 | 400

Petite women w/pics w/in 50 miles | 45 | 650

Views in 3 days | 11 | 212

Emails received – unsolicited | 0 | 32

Winks received – unsolicited | 2 | 28

Emails sent out | 6 | 6

Replies received to emails sent out | 0 | 6

As you can see, the results were simply astonishing. The same profile, the same picture got 0 mathces – ZERO – when he listed his height as 5’3 but got 80 matches when he listed his height at 5’10. What’s worse is that the same study showed that Asian guys get 67% lower response rate from white women than other races. Yeah, it’s not easy being an Asian man in the dating scene!

BUT..

It’s not the end of the world, it isn’t the final truth. Being Asian is far from a handicap, it’s just cultural background, a history, something to be proud of. In fact, there are Asian guys who have phenomonal success with women – of all races. They would laugh at the suggestions in that study, because THEY KNOW BETTER.

In a new, unique product created by Ryker Koh called Asian Dating Superstars, 13 of the worlds top Asian dating coaches come together to answer ALL the questions Asian guys have about how to transform into a confident, attractive Asian man that women love. They all agree that once Asian men realize that they can be very attractive to women, that is when they automatically become confident and attractive to women.

Many male fertility issues can be treated - often naturally. Since male fertility screening is initially very easy it's a good idea to get it done.

By: Kristen Burgess

Male fertility can be influenced by several factors. Here’s an overview:

Varicocele: This issue is pronounced “var-ee-koh-seal” and it has to do with veins in the scrotum. The scrotum is the sack of skin that hangs behind a man’s penis. It holds his testicles. The purpose of it’s positioning is to help keep the testicles slightly cooler than the rest of the body. A varicocele means the veins inside the scrotum are slightly bigger than they should be (this can happen on only one side or on both). Having the veins dilated even a small amount over what they should be causes heat to build up inside the scrotum, which can cause sperm production to halt or slow. Â

Medications: Sometimes medications (or illegal drugs) can cause infertility. If your partner is taking any medications now is a good time have him evaluate them with his doctor (or get help quitting any drugs he has dependencies on).

Low Sperm Count: One of the most common causes of male infertility. Fortunately this does not have to stop you from getting pregnant. The first thing a man should do is begin to work on boosting his sperm count naturally – through diet, herbs, supplments, and other proven methods such as acupressure. Have sex every other day during your fertile period, rather than every day. This lets his sperm levels build up between baby-making attempts.

Abnormal Sperm, Or Sperm that Don’t Swim Right: All men can have sperm that aren’t shaped correctly, and all men have some sperm that don’t go the right way. If a large portion of a man’s sperm have these issues, however, it could cause fertility problems for him.

Underlying Medical Conditions: Sometimes there are medical conditions or genetic conditions that are causing male infertility. Â

Treating Male Fertility Issues

Many male fertility issues can be treated. Since male fertility screening is initially very easy it’s a good idea to get it done. It starts off with a semen analysis which will let you and your partner know the quality of his sperm. You can go from there.

Fortunately male fertility issues can often be correctly naturally, just like female issues. Nutrition is a graet place to start because it’s a change that can be made with relative ease at home. Nutritional deficiencies can be addressed. Zinc deficiency and Vitamin D deficiency are common problems men may have – and they can have a big impact on fertility. Â

There are other supplements that help boost sperm count and keep testosterone levels balanced. Herbal supplements can be beneficial to men, with some herbs specifically helping males. Acupuncture and acupressure, gaining major recognition for their benefit to female fertility, can also be used to help men. These techniques are especially good for males experiencing blockage issues. Â

Moderate exercise and removing as much stress from life as possible are two other natural tactics to help increase male fertility.
